For Biochemists and Chemical Engineers:
My new client is an early stage start-up which has initial funding and is in the business of producing biodiesel from genetically-manipulated algae. Fossil fuels have inherent problems associated with them that have wreaked havoc on our economy and our environment. Algae, at 100 times the production rate of current oilseed crops, is seen as the prime answer for renewable fuels. However, no production capacity exists, due to lack of a profitable solution. Armed with novel genetic, process and photobioreactor technology, a strong team and partnerships, my client is poised to deliver the first scalable and profitable algae oil solution. Location will be Brownsville, TX.What is the market opportunity? 65 billion gallons of diesel/heating oil per year (US). Un-profitable use of oilseed crops as feedstock limited biodiesel production to just 0.45 billion gallons in 2007. U.S. government mandate for 9 B gallons of renewable fuel in 2008, growing to 36B gallons by 2022. Expanded International opportunity via licensing and/or direct sales. Approximately 20 algae-fuels startups are currently funded, displaying lab-level solutions. Competitor success viewed advantageously in this early stage of the industry.
How will revenues be generated? Customers are biorefiners/blenders, each requesting production of 100M gallons/year. We are working with a partner today, with signed LOI. Our current plan capacity is for 76M gallons in year 8, generating $291M in sales. We anticipate buy-out offers at pilot plant demonstration, with a projected sales price of $98M ($285M valuation). This projection and plan is internal growth based, not including of the much larger national and international market opportunity.
Please alert me if the job descriptions below strike you as a good match. If so, please send me a resume with a cover letter discussing why you feel that there is a good fit between the description and your experience, with specific attention to the details of the description. Referrals and suggestions are always welcomed, as are resume submissions of any kind.
Thank you,
